MCHS Marching Band “Weathers” the weekend

Posted on: October 1, 2024

The Mifflin County HS Marching Band dealt with soggy conditions this past weekend.  On Friday night the band traveled to Palmyra for the MC versus Palmyra football game where the Huskies Football team came home victorious.  Band Director Art Belfiore said, “the field conditions by half time where to the point where it may not have been safe for us to march so we did a “Stand Still” performance.”

Saturday brought more of the same type of weather but the band got lucky twice.  The band traveled to Shamokin Area HS in Coal Township, PA for the 57th Annual Black Diamond Cavalcade.  Belfiore said, “In the morning we rehearsed outside and it did not rain.  We moved inside for the second half of the rehearsal so we did not get wet.  When we arrived at Kemp Memorial Stadium at Shamokin HS it was misty and then rained.  Fortunately it stopped for about two hours while we were warming up and performing.  Even though we did not have as much rehearsal time this week due to the weather the band had a stellar performance”.

The band finished in 1st Place with a score of 86.800.  That score puts them in First Place Overall in the Tournament of Bands Group 4-Open Class ahead of bands from PA, WV and NJ.

The band is looking forward for the return to Mitchell Field for Homecoming this coming Friday night.  The band will host the Alumni Band which is always a treat for the current band members.  Since this will be the last Homecoming at historic Mitchell Field there are over 150 Alums signed up to come and “Run It Back” one more time.  The weekend of October 12th will see the band in competition at North Schuylkill HS in Ashland, PA.  Tickets for the competition can be purchased from Mr. Belfiore or at the gate.
