Safety Drill

On Tuesday, October 6 at 8:30 a.m., MCMS will be conducting a lockdown drill. The purpose of a school lockdown drill is to protect the children and adults in the building from a potential emergency such as the presence of a school shooter. As with fire drills and other safety programs, the hope is to acclimate students and teachers to a procedure that they will be able to follow quickly, effectively and safely.

Parent-Teacher Conferences

Parent-teacher conferences are available throughout the school year, not just during our scheduled conference days in November. If you would like to meet with your child’s teacher to discuss his or her academic progress or overall experience at school, you may request a parent-teacher conference at any time. To schedule a conference, please contact your child’s teacher, school counselor, and/or principal.

We recognize that the available conference times on November 23–25 may not work for every family. We are happy to work with you to find a time that is convenient for your family and allows us to partner together in supporting your child’s success. Please do not hesitate to reach out. We value your partnership and look forward to working together to support your child.

Reminders About Early Dismissal and Parent Pick-up

Early Dismissals - For early dismissals, please send a written note into the office. Please do not submit early dismissal messages via Skyward or ParentSquare.

Parent Pick-up - A parent note is not required for parent pick-up at MCMS.

Nurse’s Contact Information:
Nurse Jennifer Staub

FLU SEASON is coming! Now is a good time to schedule flu vaccinations for students and families and review the importance of hand-washing and covering coughs and sneezes!

Global Handwashing Day is October 15, 2026.

Vision and Hearing Screenings: The TIU will conduct vision and hearing screenings at MCMS Monday, October 19 - Wednesday, October 21, 2026. The nurse’s office will conduct growth and scoliosis screenings on these days as well. Please ensure students are in attendance for screenings and that they are wearing their eyeglasses or contacts lenses. Parents may opt-out of having their child participate in screenings. This exemption must be submitted in writing to the nurse's office.

Nurse’s Forms:  Forms from the nurse’s office were distributed during homeroom on the first few days of school. Please take the time to fill them out and return them to the nurse’s office.  This ensures that students can receive treatment and health services, such as physical and dental exams, at school. A parent/guardian must complete and sign the Over-the-Counter (OTC) Medication Form before a student may receive OTC medication from the school nurse. Students without a completed form on file cannot receive these medications at school. The OTC Medication Form can be found at the link below.
Link to OTC Medication Form
Dental Information: The Smile Mobile Dentist will be at the middle school October 13-16, 2026. This is a great program that offers dental services to students at school, and it meets the 7th grade dental exam requirements per the Pennsylvania School Health Act. All 6th and 7th grade students are encouraged to take advantage of this service!

MCSD Medication Policy Reminder: The nurse’s office must receive new provider orders each school year for all prescription and over-the-counter medications. Students may not carry any medications on their person or transport them to or from school, including cough drops, medicated creams, or eye drops. The only exceptions are inhalers, epinephrine auto-injectors, and diabetic supplies when a provider’s order specifically permits the student to carry them. A parent/guardian or designated adult must deliver all medications to the school nurse in their original prescription bottles or packaging, along with the required MCSD medication form completed by the prescribing provider. Please contact Nurse Staub at 717-248-1401, ext. 6509, or jjs20@mcsdk12.org if your child needs medication at school.

PBIS at MCMS

What is PBIS?
PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports) is a school-wide approach that encourages students to make positive choices by clearly teaching, recognizing, and celebrating expected behaviors.

At MCMS, we call these our PACK Expectations! We encourage every student to:
🟣 Be ResPonsible
Come prepared, make good choices, and take ownership of your actions.
🟣 Act Safely
Make choices that keep yourself and others safe.
🟣 Have Character
Show kindness, respect, honesty, and integrity.
🟣 MaKe a Difference
Look for ways to help others and make our school community a better place.
Throughout the year, staff members recognize students who demonstrate these expectations by awarding PBIS points. These points are a way for us to celebrate students for the positive choices they make every day — both big and small!

We are excited to continue building a school community where students feel recognized, encouraged, and proud to be part of the PACK! 💜🐾

MCMS Recognized as a PBIS Tier 1 Sustaining School!

We are proud to share that Mifflin County Middle School has been recognized by the Pennsylvania Positive Behavior Support (PaPBS) Network as a Tier 1 Sustaining School! This recognition means that MCMS demonstrated fidelity in implementing school-wide Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) throughout the 2025–2026 school year.

This achievement reflects the ongoing work of our students and staff to promote positive behavior, reinforce our PACK expectations, and create a school environment where all students can learn and succeed. We are proud of our Huskies and grateful to our staff and families for helping make PBIS a meaningful part of the MCMS experience!
